A/W18 Men’s Hair Trends

We are clutching on to the last grasps of summer, but there is no doubt that the days are getting shorter, the sun is going into hiding and we are seeing more and more of those pesky grey skies that we are so used to in Edinburgh. But it doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom – a hair refresh is sometimes all it takes to brighten up your days.

This season is all about mixing up the classic styles, moving away from clean cut preppy styles and introducing mess and texture. A/W18 is all about being effortless.

More and more we are seeing longer styles walk the runways as well as in and out of the salon, so chuck out the hair bobble and let down that man bun. You want a shoulder length style without layers – think Kurt Cobain but a little more polished. It doesn’t take much to ensure you don’t look like you’ve just rolled out of bed, push it to the side and back with a little pomade and you’ll be good to go. The best part about this style is that it works on straight, wavy and curly hair.

However, you do have to keep on top of it to make sure that your hair is in good condition and looking its best. Regular trims and a good conditioner will go a long way in keeping your locks as luscious as possible.

For shorter hair it’s all about being less polished & requiring less labour.

If you’re on your way to longer hair and still getting through that awkward growing out stage, then an updated twist on the pompadour style might be the way to go. It’s a pomp with attitude – think Robert Pattinson – one length all over and pushed up but instead of that slick wet look we’re so used to seeing, keep it messy with lots of texture and movement.

The trends are really moving away from such refined styles like the prince charming, this season try going for a soft parting, where instead of a specific parting line you just have a gentle sweep to the side. It’s quick and easy, just skip the blow dry and towel dry with a little pomade.

One style we’ve seen throughout this year is the crop – faded at the sides with a sharp blunt fringe – and it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere fast. Why not try it blonde this season? A bleach blonde crop is at the top of the charts this season. If you haven’t dyed your hair before, we have a blog post on that too to guide you through the process, but the best word of advice is to not DIY it, especially if it’s going to be a major change for you. It’s worth spending a little extra on it get it done professionally to ensure that you get the look you’re going for.

Last but not least, the return of Jarhead. With Alex Turner of the Arctic Monkeys taking notes from David Beckham, taking a pair of clippers to your head certainly won’t keep your head warm but it will keep you ahead of the curb. You might have to see your barber more regularly to ensure it doesn’t lose its edge, but it will mean minimal to no effort in the morning, and that’s what A/W18 is all about.
