Salon Photoshoot 2018 – ideas and styling tips

Here at Players Lounge, it’s all about cutting hair – but sometimes we like to get a little creative. Recently the team got together, each barber got a model and decided on a specific cut to showcase. You’ll see their pictures up on Facebook & Instagram, and we’ve detailed here how to steal their style.

Duncan – by Lindsay

What haircut/style did you choose to create?
• I chose to do a soft crop which was short at the sides with a soft blend and a heavy textured top with a long sweeping fringe. You can also have a shorted blunt fringe and fade for a more dramatic look, but I decided to keep it nice and soft.
Why do you like this style?
• I like this cut as I feel it’s very easy for clients to maintain at home and is a very versatile haircut because of the length on top – so you can create various styles and be creative.
What to ask your barber for to replicate this look?
• Ask for a soft textured top with length that you can play around with, a low fade which could range between anything from a 0-1.5 depending how daring you want to be. But you can also make it softer for a more conservative look by using larger guards at the sides.
How to style at home?
• Style with a salt spray on damp hair, then use a hairdryer with a nozzle to give the hair texture and lift – you can use your fingers or a brush – whichever is easiest. Then finish by scrunching through a matt texture clay or cream and finish it off with hairspray for a little extra hold and definition.

What haircut/style did you choose to create?
• I chose to create a textured messy style.
Why do you like this style?
• I like natural looks, especially when the hair is nice and thick and the model/client has a lifestyle to suit.
What to ask your barber for to replicate this look?
• Ask for a messy textured haircut, though it doesn’t always mean that it won’t take any effort to style!
How to style at home?
• Always use sea salt spray on wet hair and blow dry it from left to right, right to left and back and forward for volume. Then use a paste that isn’t too matt.

What haircut/style did you choose to create?
• The hairstyle is a medium length textured cut.
Why do you like this style?
• I like this style as it is very versatile. As you can see from the photos you can style it curly, or straighter. It’s a look that is very on trend right now.
What to ask your barber for to replicate this look?
• Ask for a mid-length textured razor cut. This cut can be done shorter as well.
How to style at home?
• For a curly version, use a diffuser on the hairdryer (or scrunch and dry with your hands) and for a straighter version, use the hairdryer or just towel dry and leave to dry naturally. Finish the look by using some Moroccan Oil moulding cream and then spray some Evo Shebang Shebang to finish.

What haircut/style did you choose to create?
• A classic short quiff.
Why do you like this style?
• It’s a smart and classic look which is versatile so can also be styled more casual.
What to ask your barber for to replicate this look?
• Ask for a short quiff, the barber will be able to ask you more questions during your consultation to figure out how short or long you would like the sides.
How to style at home?
• After washing and towel drying, apply some salt spray. Use a hairdryer with a brush or your hands to create volume in the front. Finish the look with a matt paste and hairspray.

What haircut/style did you choose to create?
• A longer, swept back quiff
Why do you like this style?
• It’s a very versatile look and can be styled very sleek, smart and shiny or more casual with a matt and natural finish.
What to ask your barber for to replicate this look?
• Ask for a pompadour style
How to style at home?
• Use salt spray on wet hair and blow dry the hair back with a brush, creating as much volume as you can. Finish with a pomade for shine or a matt paste for a more natural finish and then pop some hairspray on at the end to keep it looking good all day.

What haircut/style did you choose to create?
• A classic fade
Why do you like this style?
• It’s a style that suits everyone and is super stylish.
What to ask your barber for to replicate this look?
• Ask for a fade at the sides starting from a 1 grade, keeping it long and swept back on top.
How to style at home?
• Use sea salt spray then dry it back and finish with hairspray – that’ll give it a strong, matt hold.

What haircut/style did you choose to create?
• A modern take on the classic slick back.
Why do you like this style?
• It’s versatile, you can either wear it all back, textured and forward or up and to the side. And a sharp fade on the sides keeps this style looking fresh.
What to ask your barber for to replicate this look?
• Ask for a mid-fade on the back and sides from a foil 000 to a number 2 – keeping the clipper work low. On the top you want it textured while keeping the length and weight in the front.
How to style at home?
• Use a texture spray when wet, blow dry the hair back and then use a strong clay working the products from the roots in the desired style. You can use a little bit of hairspray for extra hold or shine spray if you’re feeling fancy.

What haircut/style did you choose to create?
• A textured crop with a slight fade.
Why do you like this style?
• It’s a great summer look, high fashion with an edgy look to it. It works for clients with either straight or curly hair!
What to ask your barber for to replicate this look?
• Ask for a crop with lots of texture – you may need some weight taken away & your stylist can help advice on what to do with the sides depending on how short you feel comfortable taking it.
How to style at home?
• I recommend using a salt/texture spray – I use Evo Salty Dog, which you can buy in the salon, before blow drying. Use your fingers to style and create texture. I then like to use Evo Haze which is a styling powder with a slight hold. To finish the look use Hairbond Distorter, a matt medium hold putty & use your fingers to work in the product to help create the look you desire.
